Enhanced Security Measures for Air Cargo in North America

Recent security alerts have led Transport Canada to impose restrictions on air cargo destined for or transiting through Canada, as part of urgent security measures. Effective immediately as per Transport Canada’s regulations, specific requirements for consignments must be followed.

Recent security alerts regarding two incidents involving incendiary devices at carrier cargo hubs, have led Transport Canada to impose restrictions on air cargo destined for or transiting through Canada, as part of urgent security measures. Effective immediately as per Transport Canada’s regulations, specific requirements for consignments must be followed.

Simultaneously, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has introduced enhanced data requirements for shipments traveling to or transiting through the US. As of September 2 2024, additional data elements are required to comply with enhanced Air Cargo Advance Screening (ACAS) regulations. In order to comply, it is possible that additional details will be required at the time of export.

Further data requirements are expected, with measures such as identity verification and account information to be added once finalized. Additional measures are to be expected with further regulations to affect US-bound cargo.
