A severe power outage has hit the Iberian Peninsula today, leaving millions of people in Spain and Portugal without power.
While some areas in France were also affected earlier, it has been reported that all power has been restored in the country.
The power outages are affecting telecommunications, public transport, and air traffic across both Spain and Portugal, with supply chain management impacted as a result.
Airport access and operations are affected, including in Lisbon, Madrid, and Barcelona. While it has been reported that voltage has been restored in certain substations in areas of the north, south and west of Spain, the nation’s national railway is still suspended.
Distribution and warehousing activities across Spain and Portugal are impacted, with Portugal’s power firm REN advising that a full normalisation of the network could take up to a week. The cause for the outage is currently unknown.
