Ports have re-opened today (Friday 4th October) and are expected to be fully operational by next week. Some ports are offering extended opening hours over the weekend to help begin to clear the backlog.

Carriers are yet to advise their position on the recently announced congestion and emergency surcharges, so we will keep you informed as soon as more details emerge.

The current backlog is expected to take around one to two weeks to clear as shippers rush to retrieve containers from at least 45 vessels which were unable to unload as planned due to the strike. Therefore, delays are to be expected with the possibility of additional per diem, detention, and demurrage charges likely, as trucking capacity will be stretched and appointments at the terminals limited.

Woodland Group will work to mitigate any delays and additional costs as much as possible and will keep you informed, should you have a shipment affected. If you have any questions, please contact your local Woodland representative or contact us here.
