The weeks preceding the end of the negotiations were marked by severe industrial actions, impacting normal operations at ports in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Fremantle, and disrupting the supply chain processes, resulting in empty supermarket shelves locally.

The newly formed, four-year agreement marks the end of all industrial action at terminals and includes clauses on fair pay, job security, safety at work, and fatigue management measures for port workers.

Operations should return to normal shortly, however, experts say it could take a while to process all the backlog from the previous weeks, with 50,000 containers still to be cleared.
