HMRC has advised that an issue on a small number of declarations between October 2022 and April 2023 means that the VAT has not been collected correctly from customers’ Duty Deferment Accounts (DDA) and will now be taken from their accounts on the 15th of September.
It was confirmed that the issue, which impacts less than 0.4% of declarations, has been resolved so won’t affect any future declarations.
HMRC is planning to introduce collection of the relevant amounts on 15 September 2023 via direct debit. All traders impacted by this change will be contacted via email in advance of the funds being collected. Should traders have a financial concern about making a bulk payment for any historical debt, they should contact HMRC via the email address provided and work with them to agree alternative payment plans to suit all parties.
