THE Alliance carriers, Hapag-Lloyd, HMM, Ocean Network Express, and Yang Ming, have taken further steps to counter the current stagnant market conditions, characterized by low rates, reduced demand, and high idle capacity, and have announced the suspension of one more loop on the TransPacific-East Coast routes.
After suspending the PN3 Asia to Pacific Northwest West service in September, THE Alliance will discontinue the EC4 Asia to US East Coast services from w/c 13 November.
These measures are the latest addition to a growing list of recent blank sailing programs that all carriers and alliances have begun to put in place to manage capacity.
No major disruptions to supply chains are expected as a result of the most recent changes, with THE Alliance announcing an enhancement to the number of port calls on the PN2 route (Singapore, SG – Laem Chabang, TH – Cai Mep, VN – Haiphong, VN – South PRC – Tacoma, US – Vancouver, CA – Tokyo, JP – Kobe, JP – Singapore, SG) to balance out some of the effects.
