Update - India Port Strike Averted

The planned strike by unions at India's major ports, scheduled to begin on August 28, has been officially called off.

The planned strike by unions at India's major ports, scheduled to begin on August 28, has been officially called off. This decision follows a successful resolution of the issues surrounding the workers during discussions between union representatives and officials from the Indian Ports Association (IPA).

The agreement, reached on August 27, 2024, through the intervention by the Minister and Secretary of Shipping, addressed the unions' demands for wage revisions, settlement periods and other benefits. This has averted what could have been a significant disruption to port operations across the country and throughout the continent, avoiding possible additional strain to the global port issues caused by the Red Sea crisis.

Thanks to these recent cancellation of industrial actions in both Canada and India, cargo transport looks set to get back on track, ensuring that supply chains remain uninterrupted.
